So here it is, the completed skirt. It came out all right. Everything is in the right place at least! The fabric has some pretty intense set in wrinkles I can't seem to get out. Bummer...Oh well, I'm giving it time.

Not feeling all that well today! I hope I can get over whatever this business is soon.

Hair Envy

Hello ladies! Sorry for the lack of posts around here lately, I've not been feeling all too well! I still don't feel that great, but I'm back in the swing of things at least. I've been doing a lot of plaster working and messy stuff at school the last few days so I don't have any nice outfits to share, but I do have a little project to show.

I've been working on this the last two days and all that's left is the hem. But darn it all, I forgot to take a picture of the pattern, so this really is just a wee peek until tomorrow.

Sneak Peak - Picnic Skirt

You can see my embarrassingly crooked stitching there. *blush* That is the worst part, most of the rest of the waistband is relatively straight. I still feel proud of it for being my second garment ever, and I'm fairly proud of my first zipper! I learned my lesson about contrast stitching though. On another note, I've been experiencing quite a lot of hair envy lately, so I have several pics of beautiful 'dos I admire to share with you.

I always love pictures of real women! Just as glamorous and beautiful as the screen stars.

Well, the weekend's almost over. It was a beautiful sunny Saturday yesterday, however, and I was feeling adventurous. With this awkward grown out asymmetrical hairdo I have, doing any sort of authentic 30s/40s/50s curl set is really a difficult task. Lots of layers that don't really lay evenly make it hard to get curls smooth and then of course, one side hangs lower than the other. But, like I said, I felt adventurous, so I decided to do a rag curl set for work!

I love dandelions! I actually have a really lovely dandelion tattoo which I'm sure you'll see sometime.

In food news, I was feeling a premature case of the Monday blues this morning, so I decided to make us a special breakfast. I have a few foods that are definite comfort foods (spaghetti being number one!) but this is my favorite breakfast dish.

Zesty Orange Pancakes

Orange zest pancakes! The zest takes plain ol pancakes to a whole new level. I just grate some fresh orange zest in my batter and cook them up. Top em with a little maple syrup and a little honey and you'll be in breakfast heaven. Also good with cinnamon.

I have to admit...I was so excited to eat the pancakes, I forgot to get any pictures of them done! Sorry guys! :D I promise they were delicious though. A little spoiler alert for next time, I actually cut my awkward hair and now have a great even bob. I love it. You'll definitely see that soon.

See ya!

Cozy Plaid

Yesterday was a lovely day, as this whole week has been. I got this great handmade dress on ebay weeks ago in the middle of the cold and couldn't wait to wear it on a nice day. It even has pockets! What a bonus! The sweater is one of my favorites, a 40s wool sweater I bought full of holes and patched up.

Had a little fun climbing around on the tree trunk!

A few pretty extras too.

See you soon with sewing projects and some of my favorite things.

Tuesday Thrifty Goodness

Happy Tuesday all. I've been enjoying the last few days of blissful springy weather here, and am looking forward to many more (I hope!). As I said over the weekend, my lovely beau agreed to let me check out the five dollar sale our local vintage shop was having. He's very "budget friendly" let's say, so this was quite a treat. As a result I have some great things to share with you! I was pretty excited. But first a little outfit.

I apologize for the blurriness! I guess the Man's focus was a bit off. Shh don't tell him though! ;)

I got this great 50s silk blouse for $5! It's so perfect... I am in love with mustard yellow. The pencil skirt was only $2. It looks to be homemade. I suppose it was marked down because there's some fraying threads inside, but all it needs is a little trimming and reinforcing. Usually I can't afford to shop at the LVS, but I went to the sale hoping there were a lot of girls who wouldn't find the older styles attractive and would leave the best stuff behind. I was right!

2.13.11 Leather Jacket

I didn't really like the look, but there was a chilly breeze so I topped this outfit off with a leather jacket.

2.13.11 | Polka Dots

Among the rest of my finds, a great polka dotty blouse.

2.13.11 | Pansy Dress

This purple shirt dress is beautiful, I loved it as soon as I saw it. But I also realize it was probably too large for me. Oh well! I think soon I'll be starting up a little Etsy shop so someone else can enjoy these next few pieces.

2.13.11 | Uniform Blouse

This blouse reminds me of a uniform. The blue bib detail is really cute and is also on the sleeves.

2.13.11 | Rosey Cardigan

2.13.11 | Rosey Detail

I love this style of sweater from the 50s! The roses are so sweet. I have this cream one and a black one that's very similar. Unfortunately neither of them fits me! Those will be in my little Etsy shop soon too.

A quick trip to some thrift stores today yielded a lot of great vintage fabric and notions. I can't wait to get started making some tote bags and coin purses for this future Etsy venture!

See you soon!

Maison Mantin

I don't know if many of you have heard about this, but it's a great story. A rich French bachelor didn't want to be forgotten, so before he died in 1905, he declared in a 100 years that his mansion should be made into a museum for all the people of his city to enjoy. Well, after extensive restoration the mansion has finally reopened.

His collection of eccentric and decadent furniture and art is really incredible to look at. Check it out!
